Puerto Príncipe.- El Consejo Presidencial de Transición de Haití abrió el proceso para la designación de un nuevo primer ministro tras la críticas a la designación unilateral de Fritz Belizaire.
La decisión se anunció después de que el Consejo acordara los procedimientos de toma de decisiones en el seno del órgano, que deberá preparar el camino para la celebración de comicios para escoger un nuevo presidente a más tardar el 7 de febrero de 2026.
Las candidaturas, que serán recibidas del 13 al 17 de mayo, deben ser presentadas por los sectores que formen el Consejo o que se adhieran al Acuerdo Político para una Transición Pacífica y Ordenada del 3 de abril de 2024, según la nota oficial.
El nombramiento del presidente del Consejo, Edgard Leblanc Fils, y del primer ministro, Fritz Belizaire, a finales de abril, creó una crisis en el seno del Consejo, que se resolvió posteriormente con la adopción de una presidencia rotatoria y la toma de decisiones mediante una elección aceptada por 5 de los 7 consejeros con derecho a voto.
Belizaire, exministro de Deportes, fue elegido unilateralmente por el bloque mayoritario del Consejo, formado por 4 de los 7 consejeros, una elección muy criticada, lo que llevó al Consejo a iniciar el proceso para elegir un nuevo primer ministro.

Este Consejo Presidencial de Transición de Haití se instaló a finales de abril a raíz de la grave crisis que azota el país, agravada en febrero por el terror de las bandas armadas, situación que desembocó en la dimisión del primer ministro, Ariel Henry.
Este país, el más pobre de América, celebró elecciones presidenciales por última vez en 2016, cuando ganó Jovenel Moise, asesinado el 7 de julio de 2021 por un grupo armado en su residencia privada de Puerto Príncipe.
